Minor Sustainable Development

Introduction
A minor is a half year study (30 EC) during your bachelor program. The content of this study can be totally different from your major program. At Leiden University you can attend a minor during the first semester of the third year of the bachelor. It is also possible to do a half minor (15 EC). Information about the amount of EC reserved for electives in your program is available at the minor-website of Leiden University (in Dutch).

The minor “Sustainable Development” has an interdisciplinary character and is designed for studies of all faculties. This means that it does not matter whether you study humanities, natural sciences or social sciences. The minor “Sustainable Development” is new and open for everyone.

The minor starts in September 2009 and runs essentially full-time during the first semester.

Sustainable development: theory and practice (12 EC)
This course is an English-language part of CML’s minor curriculum Sustainable Development (that is taught mainly in Dutch). The course is open for students with any background. It is designed for the 3rd year of the bachelor but is advanced enough to function in a Masters curriculum as well. It will start in november 2009.

The course teaches themes that lie close to CML’s research programme. The current themes are:
  • Sustainable land (and sea) use in the Netherlands and the developing countries
  • Biodiversity conservation in the Netherlands and on the global level
