CVPED's 20th anniversary !

Short description about 20th anniversary of CVPED, the fieldstation in the Philippines, and 20 years of cooperation between Leiden University with Isabela State University in the Philippines.

On 5 June 2009 it was exactly 20 years ago that Leiden University signed an agreement with Isabela State University in the Philippines to cooperate in the field of environmental research and education.

This fact was celebrated on 5 June at the end of the 6th  International CVPEDConference in Cabagan, Isabela Province.

A special book, titled Crossing Boundaries, tells the story of two decades of the Cagayan Valley Programme on Environment and Development and all its achievements. The book has been prepared for this occasion. The publication of the book, with numerous photographs of the Cagayan Valley, was made possible through a generous grant of the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Manila.

The first copy of the book was presented to the Governor of Isabela Province, Grace Padaca, by Dr. R. Quilang, President of Isbalea State University and Dr. Gerard A. Persoon of the CML. 

The Governor expressed her thanks and stressed that the research that CVPED has been doing over the years has turned out to be of great relevance for the region. She made a strong plea for the continuation of this kind of research in one form or the other in the years to come.
