"Problem"-lions in Kenya

Dr. Hans de Iongh of the CML have been interviewed in VPRO television programme: "Noorderlicht Nieuws" on 16 July 2009 about the lion research in Kenya.

In this interview he explained the  background and objectives of the research programme in Kenya, which covers the migration and behaviour of "problem lions",  attacking livestock of the Masaai communities surrounding Amboseli national park.  

The research contributes to the mitigation of conflicts between Masaai livestock owners and lions, through a compensation scheme. While during 2001-2006 some 140 lions have been killed in the Amboseli ecosystem by masaai, the past two years, since the start of this research,  only two lions have been killed.
